Philippine Travel Mart 2010

Organized by the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) and in partnership with the Department of Tourism, the 21st Philippine Travel Mart proved to be a big success as Filipinos and foreigners alike flocked SM Megatrade hall last Sept. 3 – 5, supporting entrepreneurs and owners in the travel and tourism industry.

Considered as the biggest travel and tourism trade show in the country, Philippine Travel Mart aims to promote and sell inbound and domestic tour packages to potential travelers in various regions, provinces, and top tourist destinations all over the Philippines.

“We are constantly finding ways to promote Philippine tourism. The 21st Philippine Travel Mart is the perfect venue for Filipinos to be aware of endless tourist attractions and destinations the country has to offer,” PHILTOA president Cesar Cruz said.

Resorts, hotels, airlines, and tour operators are some of the exhibitors in the event. A major attraction to visitors was the Mutya ng Davao contest, as well as free products and goods from Davao province.

Visitors were also given a sticker to be posted on their favorite pavilion. Crowd favorites were the pavilions of Ilocos Region, Bicol Region, Central Visayas Region, and CALABARZON region. Most of the visitors grabbed the opportunity to book discounted fair tickets in Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Zest Air, and SEAIR.

With Philippine Travel Mart as its flagship program, PHILTOA is known as the only association of tourism enterprises committed to promote and market domestic and inbound tourism. Founded in June 1986, its members include travel agencies, hotel, resorts, transportation companies, handicraft stores, and other tourism-oriented establishments and association.

Philippine Travel Exchange 2010

Representatives from 108 wholesale travel agents worldwide joined together to support the Philippine tourism industry through the 10th Philippine Travel Exchange (Phitex) last Sept. 2 at the Manila Hotel.

Travel wholesalers from China, Korea, Japan, Asia Pacific, North America, India, the Middle East and Europe came over to discuss business and forge deals with the local tourism sector, Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim said.

“They will do business with 194 local sellers [of tour packages], thus generating volumes of foreign visitors over the short and long term,” Lim said.

Themed as “Awesome Philippines, Awesome Scenery, Awesome Activities, Awesome Experiences,” the event welcomed the delegates in a dinner hosted by the Department of Tourism and Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.

Considered a marketing initiative from the government, Phitex 2010 links wholesale foreign buyers to local tourism sellers of products and services in one-on-one business meetings.

Familiarization programs for delegates about different provinces and local destinations in the country were also organized by DOT and Philippine Tours and Operators Association (PHILTOA).

According to Tourism Undersecretary Vicente Romano III, foreign wholesalers would be a significant help to “push the Philippine tourism brand in their respective countries through over-the-counter or point-of-sale promotion and other agency-driven consumer marketing schemes.”

Some of the local sellers who joined the event were airlines, hotels and resorts, tour and travel agencies, convention facilities, incentive and congress organizers, transport firms, and tourist destinations.
