'Project DOT Wiki' helps create new tourism brand

Days before his resignation from post, Tourism undersecretary Vicente Romano III started a collaboration via public demand to replace the "Pilipinas kay Ganda" campaign. Introducing: "Project DOT wiki."

The initiative was started by Romano when he posted on his personal Facebook page last Oct. 19. The website www.tourismpilipinas.com were shown step-by-step process on how to join and help the Department of Tourism (DOT) come up with a new tourism brand name.

"[We] have gotten close to 60 responses...since it was announced [and] I am now doing a matrix of assignments so as to optimize contributions," DOT officer-in-charge Evelyn Macayayong said.

Romano, who headed DOT's planning and promotions regarding the new tourism brand, admitted responsibility in the failure of the slogan and website.

"I take the rejection of the brand by the people as a vote of 'no confidence' not just for the brand, but also for the person behind it. I take full responsibility for the branding controversy, and for this reason I am tendering my irrevocable resignation," he said.

Meanwhile, a Facebook fanpage called DOT D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) was one of the earliest results of the Project DOT Wiki. Another fanpage was created, HelpDOT, carrying the same purpose and intentions as that of the first one.
